Epic H.A.C.K.S. vs. Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S.: What Are the Key Differences?

Quick Answer

Epic H.A.C.K.S. and Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. are two distinct action figure lines from Boss Fight Studio. Epic H.A.C.K.S. features 1/12 scale figures with over 30 points of articulation, while Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. offers 4-inch figures with extensive customization. Choose Epic for larger, more articulated figures; choose Vitruvian for classic 4-inch scale and deep part-swapping.

Boss Fight Studio's H.A.C.K.S. system has become a favorite among collectors who love customization. But with two main lines—Epic H.A.C.K.S. and Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S.—it's easy to wonder which one suits your needs. This comparison breaks down the key differences to help you decide.

Both lines share the H.A.C.K.S. philosophy of interchangeable parts, but they cater to different scales and preferences. Let's explore what sets them apart.

Scale and Size: The Most Obvious Difference

The most immediate difference is scale. Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. figures are 4-inch scale, a classic size for action figures that fits well with many other lines. Epic H.A.C.K.S. figures are 1/12 scale, which is roughly 6 inches tall, offering more presence and detail. This size difference affects display options and compatibility with other toys.

If you collect primarily 4-inch figures, Vitruvian will fit seamlessly. If you prefer larger figures that command attention, Epic H.A.C.K.S. is the way to go. Consider your existing collection and display space when choosing.

• Measure your display space to ensure the larger 1/12 scale fits comfortably.

Articulation and Posability

Epic H.A.C.K.S. boasts over 30 points of articulation, allowing for dynamic poses and action scenes. Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. figures also have good articulation but may have fewer points due to their smaller size. For collectors who prioritize posability, Epic offers more flexibility.

However, articulation isn't everything. The smaller Vitruvian figures can still achieve a wide range of poses, and their scale makes them easier to pose in groups. Think about how you plan to display your figures—if you love action-packed poses, Epic's extra articulation is a plus.

• For dynamic poses, consider Epic H.A.C.K.S. figures with over 30 points of articulation.

Customization and Interchangeability

Both lines are built around the H.A.C.K.S. system, meaning parts are interchangeable within the same line. Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. offers a vast array of characters and accessory packs, allowing for deep customization. Epic H.A.C.K.S. is newer but already includes characters like The Dark Hand Space Pirate Clan, with plans for more.

The customization potential depends on the breadth of parts available. Vitruvian has a larger catalog, so you have more options for mixing and matching. Epic is growing, but if you want maximum variety now, Vitruvian may be the safer bet.

• Check the current catalog for available parts and characters to gauge customization potential.

Price and Value

Price points differ between the lines. Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. figures like the Eos Warrior are priced around $12.50, while Epic H.A.C.K.S. pre-orders like The Dark Hand are $20.00. The higher price for Epic reflects the larger size and increased articulation.

Consider your budget and what you value more: a lower price per figure or a larger, more articulated figure. Both offer good value for the quality, but Epic costs more upfront.

• Compare prices across the lines to find the best fit for your budget.

Tradeoffs to Consider

• Scale vs. Portability: Epic H.A.C.K.S. figures are larger (1/12 scale) and more imposing but take up more space. Vitruvian figures are smaller and easier to store or carry. If space is tight, Vitruvian may be more practical.
• Articulation vs. Classic Feel: Epic offers over 30 points of articulation, great for dynamic poses. Vitruvian, while still articulated, offers a more classic 4-inch figure feel. For maximum posability, choose Epic; for a nostalgic vibe, choose Vitruvian.
• Price vs. Size: Epic figures cost more (e.g., $20.00 for The Dark Hand) but are larger and more detailed. Vitruvian figures are more affordable (e.g., $12.50 for Eos Warrior). Budget-conscious collectors may prefer Vitruvian, while those wanting premium figures can invest in Epic.
