Learn what to expect from a Legends of Lucha Libre Mystery Mascaras Wave 1 boxed single, including chase variants, display options, and whether blind-box collecting is for you.
Quick answer
If you enjoy the thrill of blind-box collecting and want an affordable entry point into Legends of Lucha Libre mini masks, the Mystery Mascaras Wave 1 boxed single is a solid pick. Just know that you won't know which mask you get until you open it, and chase variants are rarer.
What makes the boxed single different from a full display
The boxed single is exactly that: one miniature replica luchador mask on a display bust, sold individually. A full PDQ display box contains 18 masks with a known mix of common and chase variants. Buying singles means you skip the bulk commitment but also lose the guarantee of getting a chase variant within a set.
The chase variant factor
Each PDQ display box has two sets of common mask variants and one set of chase variants or more rare deco masks. When you buy a boxed single, you're essentially pulling from that pool at random. If you specifically want a chase mask, you may need to buy multiple singles or a full display to improve your odds.
Decision rules for the boxed single
- Know the blind-box risk: You cannot choose the mask you receive. If you need a specific luchador, consider trading or buying from a reseller instead.
- Budget per mask: At around $8.96 per single (catalog comparison $12.99), it's an affordable way to start a collection. But buying 18 singles costs more than a full display box. If you plan to collect many masks, a full display box may be more cost-effective.
- Display and storage: Each mask comes on a display bust. They are small and easy to shelf or desk display. No extra accessories are needed.
- Gift potential: The mystery element makes it a fun, low-stakes gift for lucha libre fans. Just warn the recipient that the mask is random.
